I have no password on my Imac as I am the only person who uses it.
I have never had any problems. Usually what I do if I am asked for
authentication is press Item chooser and then end . This normally land me on
the OK button and just press twice to activate.

He may have said there is no password but from what I understand you can't
set up a mac without a password. I'd ask again to be sure otherwise you may
be reinstalling OSX yourself
