It is called ABBYY FineReader Express and is fully VO accessible. I used it extensively this past semester to OCR PDF files as well and scanned images. I've not tried the built-in scan engine as I use VueScan to do my document scanning and then use ABBYY to OCR the resulting images. I haven't used ABBYY on Windows so I can't offer a comparison, but you can download a limited 15 day trial version of FineReader Express for Mac at the following link: http://www.abbyy.com/finereader_for_mac/trial/ HTH, Bryan On Jan 7, 2012, at 6:30 AM, Christo Thiardt wrote: > Hello > I have used FineReader extensively in PC world both for scanning documents > and deciphering PDF files. > > My question is - is FineReader (or something similar) available for the Mac > and, if so, is it suitably accessible for a blind user? > > Many thanks in advance > > Christo > > > <--- Mac Access At Mac Access Dot Net ---> > > To reply to this post, please address your message to [email protected] > > You can find an archive of all messages posted to the Mac-Access forum at either the list's own dedicated web archive: > <http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/pipermail/mac-access/index.html> > or at the public Mail Archive: > <http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/>. > Subscribe to the list's RSS feed from: > <http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/maillist.xml> > > The Mac-Access mailing list is guaranteed malware, spyware, Trojan, virus and worm-free! > > Please remember to update your membership options periodically by visiting the list website at: > <http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/mailman/listinfo/mac-access/options/> <--- Mac Access At Mac Access Dot Net ---> To reply to this post, please address your message to [email protected] You can find an archive of all messages posted to the Mac-Access forum at either the list's own dedicated web archive: <http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/pipermail/mac-access/index.html> or at the public Mail Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/>.
