Hi Steve, Welcome to the list, since I haven't seen your posts here before today. The mac-access list has a number of special purchase deals for list members to receive special discounts. You can read about this at the link to "Breaking News!" at the main mac-access web page: <http://www.mac-access.net/NewsFlash!.html> This includes the Take Control eBooks and the sArchiver software. You'll need to follow the instructions on that page for purchasing such items. In general, this involves off-list contacts with Gordon and Lynne using the specified contact link or, in the case of U.S. list members purchasing the Take Control books, using the link to contact Travis Siegel to handle the transaction. Note that you must be a mac-access list member for a minimum time before you can purchase the Take Control books at the substantial discount.
The new title, Take Control of Screen Sharing in Lion," will shortly show up in iBooks, but because Gordon and Lynne arranged this discount purchase with the Take Control publishers, we get immediate notification of new titles. This discount is something they negotiated with the publishers for our benefit -- they themselves get no benefits from the transactions, and have also gone to the trouble of setting up and maintaining easy-to-access distribution servers for people who purchase these titles. What's different about purchasing the Take Control titles through this list, or directly from the publishers, in contrast to using iBooks, is that you get permanent access to the latest minor version updates, revisions, and corrections to all your purchased titles in multiple formats. So you can read these in ePub versions or PDF versions, and re-download the most current version at any time. What's particularly different about purchasing the Take Control titles through the mac-access list arrangement, is that in addition to the substantial discount, Lynne and Gordon maintain access to these different versions on a server site that is primarily designed with accessibility in mind. I've purchased and used a number of the Take Control eBook titles before this arrangement was set up, and accessed them directly from the main Take Control web site. They brokered this arrangement because the Take Control series was one of the most accessible and useful set of titles found by th eir users. The O'Reilly books "Missing Manual" series is another good source of information, and you may occasionally see list posts when some of these eBook titles go on sale. You probably will want to look through the main catalog list of titles at the linked web page. Other list members may comment on titles they found useful on subjects such as switching to the Mac, using Mail, maintaining Backups, etc. HTH.
