TextEdit will read your documents with no trouble. If you find that ticking boxes is a problem, then things get more complicated. Pages doesn't handle tables well with VO. You can't even recognise a table unless you know it's there from reading the same document in TextEdit. A table shows up as a highlighted space, so if you can find it, you can copy it into a Numbers document, work on it there, and copy it back into Pages. Quite a messy procedure until you get used to it. If you find a highlighted space and want to know whether it is a table, go to the Format menu and go down to Table. In the submenu, look for "Convert table to text". If this option isn't dimmed, then you've got a table and you can make it visible using this command. However, if you modify the table under these circumstances, its formatting will be lost. Sorry for the ramble, but it's a complex subject.
