Having never compiled pure ftp, I can't say whether it even has a
configure command. You really need to check the install instructions
for the program, it will give you proper commands for compiling from
source.
And, if it doesn't, then usually you'd ls the contents of the folder,
and look for other txt files that might explain the install process.
Failing that, just type make, and perhaps it will go along and do
it's thing without any issues at all, though this isn't usually the
case, especially with complex or large programs, though small simple
programs will often make use of this process.
I think I saw in another thread you are using it, but if you're still
having trouble, drop a line, and I'll go take a look.
No use for pure ftp myself, since I use ncftpd here.
