For nntp, you need to get a dedicated news reader. I used to use one
called osxnews (I think) but it was for tiger, and I don't know if
it's been updated since then, and there were (some) vo issues, though
nothing that couldn't be worked around.
There's a list of nntp readers for osx posted here:
http://www.newsreaders.com/mac/clients.html
I haven't tried any of the ones on the list except for (I think)
osxnews, so I can't say how well they work or don't with vo, but it
might be worth checking out.
I no longer have access to nntp news groups, and to be honest, I
don't miss them much, though every now and then, I find myself
wishing I had access just for that quick question that usually got
plenty of replies, and all you had to do was hunt down a group
dedicated to your topic, and poof, instant gratification. I realize
there's mailing lists, and discussion groups, but folks that never
used news groups knows what is missing from those modes of
communication.
The lack of needing to sign up for one thing, and the complete lack
of capcha is of course another plus, but alas, as I said, no nntp
access now, and no funds to obtain one, and the free ones aren't up
to the challenge in my opinion.
hth.
