Hi Lovette, No, you don't need to worry
Your OS X Desktop behaves a little differently to what you may have been used to in the past. I think by default, you'll get an icon on the Desktop pointing to your Hard Drive, with what ever name you've chosen for it. You can also populate it with folders if you like or shortcuts, which are called "Aliases" under OS X. If you go into Finder's Preferences (Command+comma) you'll find yourself in the "General" section. From here, you choose to show or hide icons relating to Hard Drives and CD/DVDs etc. I hope this helps.
