Hello everybody

As some of you may be aware, my other half, Gordon, was formally discharged
from care on Tuesday of last week, and is now home with us full time. Perhaps
it is one of Gordon's faults, but he has always been the kind of person who
finds it difficult to sit and do nothing. Hence, the moment he was finally
reinstalled in his rightful place in our household, he began making plans to
complete the work which had to be put on hold last November regarding Mac
Access and associated projects.

Since his return, he's been trying to fix problems which have been dogging us
on our current server solution for months; although he does have it functioning
quite stably at the moment. Gordon says he knows where the problem is, and what
is causing it; but fixing it is another matter. For this reason, we have taken
the decision to add another server to our outward-facing configuration. This
new server will come on stream shortly, and will be registered in the name
server system as "mail.mac-access.net".

It is our intention to migrate our mail services over to the new server,
including Mac-Access – the mailing list to which we are all subscribed.
Although we will do our very best to ensure that the change-over is as smooth
as possible, there are a couple of things which you need to be aware of in
advance of its taking place. Firstly, we are going to be assuming that all
members of the group at the time Gordon begins the process of assembling list
membership data, will be members of the group when it moves to its new home.
Therefore, when the new server comes on line you may receive a new welcome
message. Please do not worry about this when it happens; it simply is a
formality which occurs every time new members join the group. Since effectively
we will all be new members, the server will treat us as such. If you do not
wish to be enrolled as a member of the group at that time, please contact us on
the support address; do not post your request to the group as it will be
disregarded if you do.

If you are a member who has a direct account here at Mac Access Dot Net, the
changeover will affect you more than those whose email addresses are remote. We
will contact you via our clients-only server status list in order to let you
know what steps if any you are required to take.

However hard we try, we cannot guarantee that at the time of change-over, there
will be no disruption to the group. We will, as I have already stated, do
absolutely everything in our power to make sure that any disruption in service
is minimal, and we would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance
for any inconvenience that the disruption may cause.

We will also try to ensure that the public archives are maintained so that all
of our now extensive database of messages is maintained.

If you have any questions or comments regarding this post's contents, please do
not reply on list; contact the support address directly,
<[email protected]> and we will try to address your concerns or questions.
Even as I write, Gordon is working on the new infrastructure and has already
completed much of the work. We hope to be able to provide more solid details as
to when we anticipate the changeover occurring at some point during the coming
week.

Thank you for your time.

Lynne
