Hi Sarah,
here is the article.
Whither Air Dictate?
There has been quite a bit of press lately about the demise of Air Dictate.
We like the press because we're wanton attention junkies, but should
probably explain the situation a bit. (Which could exacerbate the problem by
attracting further attention, but that's the nature of vicious cycles.)
What is it?
Air Dictate is an app that lets you talk into your iPhone 4S instead of
typing on your computer. The app uses Siri's speech dictation feature to
convert your speech into text, and then sends the text over Wi-Fi to your
computer. On the computer end, our Air Dictate Receiver app generates
keystrokes to enter your text, just as if you had typed it. So if you are
running Word, Text Edit, or any other app that lets you type, you can speak
instead of typing.
Air Dictate looks like this on the iPhone:
What happened to it?
Anyway, Air Dictate went live in the App Store just before Christmas 2011.
The news came last Monday (Jan 23, 2012) that Apple was pulling Air Dictate
from the store. Apple's stated reason was simply that we were invoking Siri's
speech-to-text feature by mapping a tap on that large microphone button to a
tap on the smaller mic button on the standard iPhone 4S virtual keyboard.
There is no public support for mapping a tap event from one position to
another, and in fact our tap mapping relied on the position of the Siri mic
button staying where we had observed that it is. It's possible that Apple
might move that button in a future version of iOS. Were this to happen, we
would indeed have to update Air Dictate to handle it. Of course, we always
have to test all of our apps with every minor and major iOS update, because
Apple has been known to make intentional or accidental changes, even to
public APIs, that require app updates. But we understand this issue and
Apple's position.
What happens next?
If Apple's objection is really just the way we invoked Siri, then we should
be able to submit a modified version that triggers dictation in a different
manner. We'll certainly try, and should know more in a week or two. But it
may not be so easy if it's something deeper and they just can't tell us. For
example, if Apple is only permitted by its contract with Nuance to use
Nuance's speech recognition for particular purposes, it may actually be a
breach of contract for Apple to allow third-party apps to use Siri in new
ways. If that's the case, things could be more complicated.
For now, we're letting Air Dictate development simmer on the back burner. If
Apple does allow the next version of Air Dictate back into the App Store,
then we will recommence our efforts by releasing a Windows version of Air
Dictate Receiver very soon (probably within a few days). Air Display, Air
Sharing, and Print Sharing are keeping us pretty busy. Not to mention some
other exciting projects that we hope to tell you more about in a few months.

There is a program I think called air dictate but I'll the to find the
article as I lost it. It uses Siri to dictate to your mac.
Take care.

Well I'm only guessing but I think Apple might be trying to head that
way!
I think they want the star trek type of computer!
We will see what the future holds!
