I rarely use my own trackpad as the sensitivity seems too much and it seems obsessed with turning Voiceover off or screen curtain on with the slightest accidental touch. but nevertheless I did need it once when I found a CD would not eject despite constant restarts. Sarah on this list recommended holding down on the trackpad as the IMac restarted and that indeed did mean that the CD popped out on restart. Perhaps you can do the same thing with a mouse but it would be worth checking out that you would not lose this and other functionality.
