Hello everybody

Today we finally admitted defeat in our quest to have our late 2011 Mac Mini
Server machines boot from our generic DVD drives. We, Gordon and I, went into
town and bought 2 Apple MacBook Air Superdrives. We did this very much against
our will, as we do not agree with Apple's new policy of forcing the user to use
none but their own hardware in this way.

Anyway, we've just got back from a very enjoyable bike ride, and we unpacked
the first of the Superdrives; well, I should say Gordon did, while I watched.
We have just tried booting from an OS DVD and, guess what! The machine boots
perfectly. So it would appear that those who told us this was the case were
correct and Apple has indeed done something with their firmware to make this
restriction happen.

So, if anybody else is in the same situation, it looks like you'll have to
shell out more money. As for us, we now have 2 Rico DVD-RW drives, both capable
of writing dual layer DVDs, sitting here doing absolutely nothing. Well, we
could use one with our NetBook I guess.
