Thank you very much. That is helpful. I was under the impression
you can't boot from the USB port. I advised her she should buy
at least a 32-GB thumb drive.

        I found an article in a Google search in which the
author said that the trouble with USB drives was that you can't
boot from them. That article was a few years old, like tiger,
and this may not be true on the newer systems.
