That is correct, it's just a pathway. Certain applications such as Sendspace wizard, if you link it to dock and try to start it from there it will tell you to start it from the main executable file, then it gives you an okay button, and there you are, back where you started from. So if you still have the original folder or file, just find it and copy then either command v, or command option v and move it to desktop, not moving the linkage that is up on the dock.
