If you don't know the direct link to the stream, I think the easiest way is to 
first browse to the link in iTunes. Then open that link which will cause the 
player to open if it's a supported stream. 
Itunes will actually put the link in a playlist called Internet songs. There is 
an Information command, I think it's Command-I but it's in the menu, and you 
can get the resulting link from there. 
I have a playlist in iTunes called Radio stations I Like. I paste this item in 
there, and edit the information so that the title is correct. Now it will play 
any time requested in this playlist. 
It took me awhile to figure this out but I got tired of playing things from my 
recents and having them disappear. This is a permanent solution for anything 
that plays in iTunes.
