There is a safari extension who's name escapes me right now but it enables you to replace the flash items with a tool bar thing that you can pause and resume play and stuff. the next time I launch safari I'l look it up or you can go to prefs, extensions and click get extensions and in the items chooser type flash and see what you come up with. Keep in mind the install link will be a few vo left arrows from the heading name of the extension.
