Evening Glenn, This is not a direct answer to your question, but I've been having a few problems with the appstore on my iPad. Everything works except the "updates" tab. it refused to connect to the store until I did a full restore of the device at which point it started working again.
As I said, it is not a direct answer to your issue but they may be related.
