Thank you very much for your welcoming email. I'm fairly confident with the iPad and iPhone as I own both, so hopefully I will get the hang of the Macbook as fast. I look forward to learning from and exchanging tips with the list.

We pride ourselves in as much as we are always, absolutely and unconditionally always, willing to help you with your quest to learn to use Mac OS and, if appropriate, iOS as well. Hello Debbie, A DMG file is a disk image. When you get one of these, you need to open it with Cmd-o. You'll then find a file browser window. Interact with this and if it contains a PKG file, open that with Cmd-o also. If it contains an APP file, just copy it to your Applications folder. Generally, on opening a PKG, you'll be in an installer. Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine. When it asks for your username and password, these are the ones for your user on your computer, i.e. the ones you use at login. The Installer will put the application in the right place for you, so don't worry that you can't see it once the installation has finished.
