Hi Mike,
        Go to disc uitility and check both verafy disc and verafy disc 
permissions hopefully this will fix your problems you may have to do the repair 
disc booting to the recovery partition but try the verafication process to 
start with if it finds anything you then run repair disc and repair disc 
permissions.
