Hi Folks,

I've grown pretty fond of Keynote on my Mac & iPad, but one glaring
accessibility shortcoming is the lack of VO feedback when a slide or
presentation is played in Slide Show mode as is commonly done when making a
large screen presentation. AFAIK there is still no way to have VO indicate
which slide is currently displayed in this mode.

To get around this shortcoming I've begun embedding an MP3 audio file in each
slide. The audio file is simply a 1 or 2 second recording of me speaking the
slide number, for example "Slide One." This MP3 is played automatically as I
move between slides.

Here are the steps I've used to do this. Hope somebody else finds this useful,
and my apologies if this idea has already been offered here.
1. Create the audio files, one for each slide.. I'm sure there are a million
ways to do this, but I made mine with my standard apple earbuds with inline mic
plugged into my Macbook air running Amadeus. I saved the audio in MP3 format.
2. In Keynote on the Mac, focus on the desired slide and press Command+Shift+V
to open a file browser. Browse to the audio files you created and select the
desired file. This will insert the audio file into the slide. As far as I can
tell, there is no visible indication of this audio file during a slide show,
but when creating or editing your presentation you can access it just as you
would any other element on the slide. You can also preview the clip from the
"Media" tab of the Inspector.
3. Repeat the process for each slide in your presentation.

Now, when I put the presentation in Slide Show mode, the MP3 file embedded in
each slide plays automatically as I move to that slide. It works going forward
and backward both. If I have an audio file in the first slide, it seems to
activate on my second press of the spacebar or right arrow. I have also saved
the presentation in iCloud and presented it via my iPad2 connected to a
projector via the Apple VGA adapter, and these audio files played just fine on
the iPad.

HTH,
Bryan
