If you see a message in this posting about not responding to

university, not me.
I posted a message yesterday about cable routers and,
since then, I got enough information to determine what to buy so
I hope that problem is solved even though I have still
yet to get the new router to access the internet via the cable
even though the router is one recommended by the cable company
so I must have something still set wrong.
A word of warning to any of you thinking about buying a
new iMac. They are really neat. Voiceover is nice and responsive
on the few things I have tried it on. The keyboard and mouse
Apple supplies is now wireless and comes ready to use so you
don't have to pair it, but be ready to buy a external DVD drive
as Apple now puts absolutely no mechanical drives of any kind in
their iMac.
Some other observations. The bluetooth keyboard is as
thin as box cardboard but is a full-key keyboard. The keys kind
of snap but are the flat kind and take a bit of getting used to.
There is a new key in the extreme lower-left-hand corner to the
left of Option so it is kind of confusing the first time one
runs voiceover because nothing seems to work quite right. I
think all the keys are in their normal places, but things are a
little more crowded.
I had my father's old iMac G5 and his new iMac both
running voiceover at the same time and it is like night and day.
The G5 seems to struggle horrifically when voiceover is running
especially in terminal. The new iMac is running Lion and
probably has 8 to 16 times more RAM and a 2.7 GHZ processor.
Between that and about 6 years of better software and hardware,
one should expect things to work a lot better and they certainly
do.
My father is a bit annoyed about the DVD drive as he
will now have to go buy one as he has a brand new Dragon Dictate
just waiting to install which is mostly why he bought the
new iMac in the first place.
I am enjoying getting to play with new stuff that isn't
mine, but my father bought this to use, not for me to play with
for days so I hope I can hand it to him soon.
