That is not an iMap or POP3 difference, they both offer the opportunity to remove from server. You just want to find the setting that says do not delete after downloading messages. Hi Jim. the reason for your problem is that the iPhone now sets up Gmail as IMap by default, which I find annoying too. IMap, basically downloads all the mail to the phone or computer that has that setting, and when the emails are deleted, they are automatically deleted from the server. The only way to avoid this I found, was to disconnect the iPhone from any network, so that it couldn't connect to the internet, then set up the email account again with POP3. Another way that might help, is to synchronise your email settings from your PC with the use of iTunes. If you use Microsoft Outlook, you can synchronise your PC's email settings, by going into iTunes, selecting the "Info" Radiobutton, and ticking the box that says Sync my Email accounts, selecting Gmail from the list of accounts set up on your PC, then clicking the Apply button. It is the same if you use the Mac version of iTunes, which I prefer. Hope this helps to answer your question. Regards. lewis.
