The only sleep mode I'm aware of is stand by. where the system shuts down, sort of, but leaves your system in a suspend state. It does not save all of your work to ram disk though. Hibernate mode, which can be gotten through an app I demoed a few months ago on this list saves the state of your environment and puts the computer in to a suspended state, almost shutting it down but not really, like the bares do in the winter. and shut down, shut down the computer totally.
