Hi Josh and Sarah,

You don't need to drag and drop actions that you want to add to an Automator
workflow. Just add the item by pressing "return" when you're focused on your
selection. This actually also works for sighted users, too. The only
difference between pressing "return" and using drag and drop to add an action
to an Automator workflow is that your selection gets added to the end of the
workflow, whereas a sighted user who drags and drops that action can move it to
any position in the workflow -- for example, to add the new action just before
the last action in the workflow instead of after it. You can reorder any
actions that have been added to the workflow area by interacting with the
workflow, then focusing on a particular action, and using Command-Up arrow (or
Down arrow) to move it to another position.

Sarah, I'm not sure what you want to do with variables, but you can can select
variables for automator in the same way by pressing "return". So, for example,
you'd change your selected library from "actions" to "variables", and then
you'd select the variable you want from the list, like "Current time", and
press "return". That selection would show up in a table of variables below
your workflow. (VO-Down arrow past the horizontal splitter that separates it
from the workflow.) Then you might use that variable in an action like "Get
value of variable" or "Set value of variable", where you switch back to the
actions library and select one of those actions for the workflow by pressing
"return". Since you've already selected the variable "Current time", the
variable that is listed in the pop up for the "Get value of variable" action
will be "Current time". However, you can add other variables to your table,
and select a different one by navigating to it in that table, before selecting
a "Get value of variable" or "Set value of variable" action and pressing return
to add it you your workflow.

HTH. I don't usually do much with Automator workflows or services unless I'm
trying to answer a specific question. The point is that anywhere you read about
having to drag and drop, just select and press "return". And if you need to
reorder an action in the workflow, interact with the workflow and use
Command-Up arrow or Down arrow to change the position of your selected action.

Cheers,

Esther
