No there is no way to hide a purchase. I can't believe apple overlooked this 
over site.This happened during one of the releases of lion if I remember 
correctly. Hopefully if a new iTunes version comes out and a new os this year 
that will be fixed. but we won't know for another let's say 3 months. 

It is also not possible to do this in ios. Swiping has not worked for ages now.
