Hi Dónal, I think this obnoxious behavior is due to the installation of an Internet Plug-In for Safari that overrides the normal behavior of displaying with Preview. Try going to Finder and deleting the ".plugin" file from your system's /Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder. The file you want to get rid of may have a name like: /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin You may also need to restart Safari for the new behavior to take effect.
