Hi!

Just bought myself a nice Mid Year surprise in the form of a new Mac Mini
machine and several other associated bits and pieces for the system here, been
a while since I've been able to give myself a little present and no its not my
Birthday <smile>.

Anyway back to the Mac Mini, I can't wait till it arrives on my doorstep, I'm
very much looking forward to using a computer with a SSD drive and the new Mac
Mini I ordered certainly has that, a 512GB SD drive as it happens.

I've been using the USB 3.0 standard on some of the Windows PC's here and my
MacBook Pro, speed is certainly addictive, I did think about replacing my iMac
for the new model but it seemd rather pointless, the computer is a 2011 model,
is working well and just replacing it because the new iMac model has USB 3.0
seemed quite over the top, enter the Belkin thunderbolt to USB 3.0 dock, plug
this dock into your thunderbolt port and you have instant access to a USD 3.0 4
port hub amongst other useful connections.

I had thought about the purchase of an external thunderbolt Hard drive but the
Belkin thunderbolt USB 3.0 hub makes that purchase rather pointless given that
I have quite a collection of Hitachi and Seagate external USB 3.0 drives along
with several high capacity USB 3.0 memory sticks.

The new Mac Mini machine will replace the 2009 Mac Mini model I'm using, the
primary use of this computer is for a Media server and the flexibility of this
will be greatly enhanced given that the new Mac Mini machine has a HDMI port so
will plug straight into my Denon AVR2113 Surround-Sound receiver which is
connected to my LCD television.

I should have the machine early next week so will let you know how it all goes
but a final question, does the function that turns your computer into a hard
drive still work? I'm thinking of using the Migration Assistant on the new Mac
Mini to transfer data directly from the older Mac Mini using a Firewire cable,
if that's not possible any more then I'll have to think of another workaround,
say restoring from a Time Capsule backup.

The 2009 Mac Mini machine is running OSX Mountain Lion so the operating system
itself shouldn't be an issue.
