Hi Linda -- In my opinion, shutting down versus sleeping is largely a personal
preference. I normally shut down or restart all of my computers, tablets and
smartphones at least once a day, but I'm a an old IT guy who was burned once
too often by operating systems that would not reliably wake up after being put
to sleep. Fortunately, sleep mode inMountain Lion seems pretty reliable, and I
will often sleep / wake my Macbook Air several times a day by closing / opening
the lid.

Maverick, properly named Mavericks, is the name of the next release of Mac OS.
A quick web search for Mavericks Apple should take you to Apple's page
dedicated to Mavericks.

HTH,
Bryan
