This is ridiculous.
Now, so then--is there away, once we do sync this and back it up, to
make a copy of the Library somewhere else, so this will never happen again?
This is kind of crazy. Mine is mainly books and I'd better just make a list
of the books I have and redownload them. Most of them are bookshare books.

I believe that ios or maybe iTunes will erase your phone and synch with the
current library. If you can find a way to import via iTunes sharing the
stuff in your new library you should be fine. If your computer is dead then
see if you can import it by adding from the dead hard drive if you can get
it in to an enclosure.
