I would assume so. The track pad and touch pad are multi finger touch
sensing products, so the handwriting and the gestures that work along
with it should work just fine if Apple ever implements it into OSx.

Personally I think the handwriting is absolutely perfect for entering
your passcode to gain access to your iOS device. I especially like it
for this task since in passcode entry mode, it will not echo back the
digit or character you wrote. And if your passcode is only digits,
then it automatically defaults to numbers mode when you switch to
handwriting...another time saver.
