Hi All,

If any of you are audiobook listeners who play your books from the music app,
the Bookmark app is free today. This is specially valuable for any of you who
are coping with the lack of support for chapters and chapter navigation in
audiobooks in iOS 7+iTunes 11. Although the Bookmark app has not been updated
in a long time, it still works accessibly under iOS 7 (and iOS 6 and earlier).
While it can't get around the failure of iOS 7 to recognize or let you navigate
by chapter markers, which is the subject of a very lengthy and ongoing thread
on the Apple Support Forums, it does let you set multiple bookmarks in your
audiobooks, and also navigate with variable time step intervals using the
accessible time ribbon slider. (You can also customize the time steps if you
don't like the default intervals of the clicks on the slider, which range from
30 seconds to 30 minutes.). This is much better than trying to scrub through
the entire book using the default slider you now have in the music app in iOS
7. Since it works from the music app, it handles both audiobooks that you
created yourself, and audiobooks with DRM purchased from the iTunes Store or
Audible. (Though if you listen to Audible books you can avoid the iOS 7 Music
app problems by using the Audible App, which supports chapters if you download
your Audible purchases from the cloud.)

There are also other nice features like being able to set a sleep timer with a
customizable interval so that if you're awake when the timer stops playback,
you can rock your phone to get another 5 or 10 minutes of playback. This not
only works on older iPhone or iPod Touch models without Siri, but is also
useful because you don't have to use Siri (and possibly wake someone who is
sleeping nearby) if you want to continue your audiobook listening.

The bad part of this is that along with the app going free, the developer has
announced on his web site that it will no longer be supported (unless another
developer is interested in picking this up.). It was basically a labor of love
from someone who wanted better features for his own audiobook listening back in
2009, when there were very few options available. His regular job is unrelated
to this app, and he no longer has time to support this, In fact, the app has
not been available in the App Store for a few months before today.

So, I'd get this while it is still available. Here's the App Store URL:
• Bookmark (used to be $2.99, now free) by Dockmarket LLC
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bookmark/id326290323?mt=8

HTH. Cheers,

Esther
