Well the option for package contents was greyed out so I just installed it anyway with excellent results. When the install completed, it uninstalled the original program and removed the uninstall. By the time I was back in the Apps list the entire mess was gone and almost forgotten. So apparently it was actually the only way since the package contents wasn’t available. But at least it works and no bad consequences.
