Hi Martin,

Yes, the newer iPads do have enough resolution for scanning printed documents, 
but it is somewhat tricky to get the documents centered with the camera in the 
top right corner and much larger devices.  I've heard some vendors are working 
on stands for the iPad, similar to the StandScan Pro, but I don't know if these 
will come with the same built-in lighting.
