Hi Trevor,
I use the free application get iplayer automator to view BBC and ITV TV programs on my iMac. You can use this to download radio and TV programs which you select by entering some words which might appear in the program title. After they have been downloaded you can play the programs via iTunes or transfer them to an iPhone or iPod. If you are interested in this approach please contact me off list and I can then Email you an article I recently wrote on how to use this application.

Please note that you will have to google get iplayer automator as it is not in the app store.
