I have music on the iPod Touch which was transferred via iTunes but someone
did that for me, can I sinc the iPod touch music to the Mac?

You can play music from an external or internal drive.
You do not have to use iTunes to play Music on the Mac. In some ways
using
VLC as your default music player is more straightforward and less of a
learning curve .
Google VLC to download the free player from Videoland.
You can also create folder playlists and play other media types with VLC
including DVDs.
However if you want to transfer Music to a iPhone or iPad you really need
to
get to grips with itunes. This is also true for things like podcasts etc.
There is a learning curve to iTunes so I suggest you should not expect to
understand it all in an hour but instead take it slowly. A tip on this
list
that Esther gave me is the use of the VO J shortcut to jump to relevant
sections of the program.
I would also personally recommend column browser view.
You can make iTunes work but unless you have used it on other platforms it
does take a bit of getting used to.
I use a combination of VLC and itunes for different functions. VLC is my
default player from Finder but I do use iTunes as well.
