I had to make a change to setting along these lines some weeks ago to use ITunes Match in practice.
What was happening was that as I was moving around the house the wifi signal reduced to a level that meant that although I was tapping on a song allegedly in iTunes match it would not play. Having changed settings to allow it to use cellular connections as well this no longer occurs.
