This is looking more and more like a mavericks issue. If all of us, my mac
book pro has 4 gigs of ram, are having this issue and the mac mini with the
8? It;s looking highly time to report this to apple care to see what they

Have you tried a full reinstall of mavericks/ I did and although
slow, I do see a slight speed increase.
