Hi Eric,

I’m so glad you were able to remove the extraneous headers from your forwarded
email messages by setting your Mail Preferences “Viewing” pane popup option for
“Show header detail” to “Default”, and I’m sorry it took you 5 years to resolve
this issue. Now that you mention this question coming up previously on mailing
lists, I think I’ve seen this once or twice, including a post by Danny on this
list a couple of years ago. I assumed that the answer was the one that Zack
gave — namely that the viewing option for reading mail headers had been toggled
to display detailed information — or else the question was phrased as an issue
with mail under the latest operating system. While new users often buy new
Macs with the latest operating system loaded, folks who have been using their
Macs for some time don’t always update their Macs right away, if they need to
run programs that were written under an earlier version of Mac OS X. Since
this issue of additional headers in forwarded mail was never something I
experienced, I didn’t realize this feature could be switched on by mistake in
mail's preferences. And if I hadn’t updated to the latest operating system when
the question appeared, I would think that solving the issue might this.

So it was only your persistence in posting an example, and making it clear that
there was a problem with the forwarded content within the body of the mail post
that led me to look into this. This does show that people should continue to
post questions to this list about outstanding issues, even if earlier queries
didn’t turn up a good answer.

Cheers,

Esther
