A few weeks ago on this list I reported a problem with using Verified by
Visa. This problem was also shared by other members of this list. I then
reported to Apple Accessibility a specific problem with Verified by Visa on
the Tesco Grocery Shopping site. This problem stopped the completion of a
Checkout.

Yesterday on another list Chris Hallsworth suggested to me that I might
try disabling JavaScript in
Safari , advice which I followed.

I am not sure which, if either, of these steps , contacting apple
Accessibility or disabling Javascript, have provoked the necessary change
but I was able to complete a checkout on the Tesco site with the Mac
today.

The behaviour and interaction is very different to what the experience is
on Windows. Clearly this is a Mac list but as many, like me, would have been
forced to switch to Windows to complete a checkout under the old setup I
thought it would be helpful to set out the difference in the Mac Experience
from Windows. so I thought I would outline what I had to do.

1. Having completed the Tesco part of the checkout you will be taken to a
page where there is a verified by Visa Frame.
2. The contents of this frame will not be visible unless you interact with
it.
3. Having interacted with it however the crucial part is that now Voiceover
does , without any problem, now read the password request, saying something
like enter the 1st 6th
and 7th characters of your password.

Although I could find no way of navigating to the required edit boxes
using normal Voiceover navigation I did get there by pressing the tab key.
However, Unlike on Windows browsers, you will not jump to the next edit box
after
entering the character of the password. You will have to press the tab key
every time you want to enter the next character. I have my tab key on the
Mac set up to automatically interact so that may have assisted me.
4. Then,, after entering the last character of the password, I pressed
enter. This proved to be a mistake. Basically after getting a bit lost I
went back to the top of the web page and investigated down again. When I
re-interacted with the Verified by Visa Frame I found this time a send data
button which I hit. So presumably you do not press enter after entering the
last character of the password but continue tabbing to the send data button.
5. I was again misled by my Windows Experience by expecting then to be taken
straight back to a Tesco Confirmation page. Again I investigated the page
and nothing appeared to have happened. However I found the Verified by Visa
Frame yet one more time and this time I found a payment authorised message
with a Continue to Confirmation button . I press this button and it return
me to the Tesco Checkout confirmation page. Steps 4 and 5 are automated
using IE and
Firefox on Windows so it is slightly confusing unless you know that these
extra steps are necessary in Safari on the Mac.

So the good news is that it is now definitely accessible though I am
slightly confused as to why the process is more convoluted than with Window
Browsers. Ironically it may well be the fact that I have disabled JavaScript
which is requiring me to take these extra steps.
