When I say formatted I really do mean formatted correctly. It has to be
formatted to ntfs mac osx extended journaled.. It is best to start off
with a blank hard drive. everything will be backed up. vo settings, app
and their settings, pics, everything.
You will if you format now loose everything so what I would do is copy
everything you don't' want to loose off on to somewhere else then reformat
the rive via disk utility and only use that drive for the time machine
back up.
I have a 1 tb drive that's as loud as all get out that is used for a time
machine back up and it works well.
