Why not just hit cmd option l from the open dialogue. I hid my side bar and I have no folders there anymore. Also, you can just brows to the voice over pref file in your dl folder by hitting cmd option l from anywhare in the finder and cmd down arrow to open it. It will open in the voice over utility. .
