I disagree as a buddy of mine and I record a weekly podcast using voice memos and the quality of recording of a 5S and voice memos is just fine as I would not want to do the podcast if the quality was crap. What I would suggest doing is turn on Do Not Disturb then click record in voice memos then do a three finger double tap to mute all voice that way you will be covered about VO accidentently letting something get through which does happen from time to time even with do not disturb on Good luck.
