No need to terminate your screen session, just hit ctrl-d, and it will suspend screen. close terminal, reopen it, then tyep screen -a (I think it's an a) and it will reattach to your current screen session. Then you can continue as before. (this assums of course, that the screen you mentioned is the multitasker for terminal called screen. Otherwise, the only thing I've found that helps is to cycle vo, sometimes that helps, but sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes, terminal is well and truly stuck, and there's nothing for it but to kill terminal and begin again.
