There is a belief that all of the most successful Canadian thieves and politicians have served an apprenticeship with the Canada Post Office. I know that many American people I deal with on eBay believe or suspect this to be true because I have assured them that it is a well-known fact that kleptomania is also recognised as a condition of employment with Canada Post. American Posties, while they do not as a rule steal everything they can get their hands on, do tend to successfully smash up the otherwise un-breakable. I have often consoled myself with the knowlege that the Canadian rule of pilferage rather than total destruction is the gentler way with missing merchandise and I would rather have my goods stolen and enjoyed by a stranger than beat to a pulp and arrive in chunks. Having said this, let me concur with James that the Post Offices on both sides of the Canada/U.S. border are preferable to the common courier service that exists with a third mandate that embraces the other two: they OVERCHARGE for what they break, lose or steal and then split fees with customs brokers and other border-goons.
