Yeah, when I finally realized that my Atari 520STfm had MIDI ports ( :)
, I had been using an Alesis MMT-8 for my sequencing stuff until then) I
realized just how good I could get from putting in the music bit by bit and
then putting it together, and on screen. Made things a whole lot easier ! My
favorite program on the ST was Notator SL.
Believe it or not, I'm thinking about firing up the TT and using it
alongside the UMAX for special MIDI processing stuff - there's an English
company called Electronic Cow that has stuff like arpeggiators, and there's
also an excellent web site run by an Atarian named Tim Conrardy who's
managed to convince a number of programmers and companies to release their
ST MIDI commercial programs as freeware! Currently it's used for MIDI synth
backup.
FWIW, I'm currently getting to grips with a light version of Cubase VST
named Cubasis VST 2 (a Mac version was just released by Steinberg at
Macworld Expo). For $99 US it's a pretty powerful package, with up to 48
tracks of audio, 64 tracks of MIDI data, and it supports VST effects and
instruments (virtual instruments are cool, I can now replace a number of my
outboard synths), plus you can do audio mastering, MP3 creation and burning
to CD.
