It's just my opinion, but I consider the clone years an error on Apple's 
part. Not necessarily allowing clones, but the way it was managed. The 
people running Apple at the time didn't get it. If clones were allowed, 
Apple should have done it earler, and perhaps we would have a vibrant 
software company at Apple now. You could argue it bought them time; 
however it nearly killed the company. I have no doubt that had they 
stayed on that course, there would be no OS and no SW for Macs today.

Perhaps we see it differently, but I believe that your clone would be a 
lot less useful without Apple around in 2001.
