Hi Amber,
Instead of getting a new iMac (your "old" one works fine, doesn't it?) why
not buy a portable DVD player to use when you are in the hospital? If you
really need computing power while in hospital, you might consider buying a
used PB or iBook as well.... or buy a used iBook with DVD drive.

I have watched DVD's on my sister's iMac (mine is not DVD capable, being
wrong generation.) Watching on the iMac was OK, but not particularly a
pleasure. I had to sit up straight at her computer work station to watch.
Can't imagine that one could watch a DVD on an iMac comfortably, while lying
or even propped up in bed.

A portable DVD is great...so easy to carry....at home you plug it into the
TV and have the "big picture," while at other times you can watch in your
hospital bed on the player's built-in screen...you can also take it on
planes and boats and trains!
I bought mine at Walmart....check them out before springing for much bigger
bucks (double!) in Future Shop.
You can email me off list if you want more info (e.g. make and price [etc]
of the player I bought)
Cheers
Liz
