Bob, Ok, I'm still confused as to what your problem is.
0. What version of Mac OS X are you running? 10.0.x, 10.1.x, or 10.2.x? Select About this Mac from the Apple menu in OS X. 1. Can you use Microsoft Internet Explorer to browse the web under OS X? If you cannot do #1, using Netscape or Mozilla will not work either, no matter how much a person hates Microsoft! 2. How do you connect to the web? Bell Sympatico HSE or Bell Sympatico dial-up? 3. Does your OS 9 install connect to the web and allow you to run OS 9 web applications properly (I assume so since you're e-mailing the list)? 4. How is your OS 9 TCP/IP control panel set up? Do you enter static IP addresses (i.e. you are assigned an IP address for your machine), or do you use DHCP? (I suspect you use DHCP since I've never heard of static IPs for Bell Sympatico) 5.
