Well, I just signed up for the Toronto FreeNet's ADSL 1.2 Mbit service. It
seems quite zippy and works better than many of the cable connections we're
hearing about here on Mac Canada.

It's 22:00 EST and these are the d/l values I get from Download.com's
download speed monitor: (all kbps speeds... /8 to give you kB)
Camino 259.2, 632.6, 204.3
Safari, 24, 166, 302.9, 302.7, 296.1, 324.1, 82.4, 921

Just played with another site... <http://www.pcpitstop.com>
Camino 840, 898 for 200 KB file, 389, 717 for 500 KB file
Safari 1096, 586, 1081, 1283 for 200 KB file, 1 MB file = 834 Kb, 2000 KB
file = 806 Kb

I've also d/l some test files from Apple's web site and got between 50 and
100 K for d/ls (this is over a 2/4-bar 802.11b connection... basement... and
sometimes the quality of the signal degrades (cordless phone I think)).

Not bad! And, everything worked right out of the box. The only thing I had
to do was enter the account name and password into the modem before I set it
up.

Well, I guess I can judge after a few months of use. Right now they're one
of the best deals around. $40/mo (37.50 + tax) for 1.2 Mbit connection with
25 GB transfer cap (much higher than Bell's) and *no* contracts (you just
have to buy the modem yourself ($200 after tax)).

AFAI understand Tor FreeNet is available to people in the GTA who can
normally hook up to a Bell ADSL.

Eric.
