I called AppleCanada to find out when, if ever, they intended to apply the current more favourable exchange rates to their prices (I want to buy a new iMac). First, I was told no one in the company could answer the question. Second, the rep said he'd take down the concern and pass it on, but he wouldn't take down the specific examples (e.g iMac SuperDrive currently listed for $2799C, $1799US [which at current rates is $between $2338--2436C, a difference of $471-363C]. He did offer to knock $75 off if I ordered right away. When I said that wasn't good enough he couldn't terminate the call fast enough.
We have several Macs and I've never minded paying more than for that other platform because Macs are just better, but paying them an extra bonus because they won't use current exchange rates is just a rip-off. Prices were quick to reflect changes when the rates went the other way. We're buying two new desktops over the next two months and if prices don't start to reflect current values the Apple may see the switch go the other way.
Apple Canada's prices were adjusted at the beginning of June, the screwing used to be much worse.
The person I spoke to at Apple Canada in May said there prices were adjusted quarterly for exchange rate.
We live in interesting times
