I don't know if the Griffin database has been mentioned yet, but that's the first place I look for monitor specs. Here's what it has to say about yours:
http://www.griffintechnology.com/archive/monitors/Super30.html Looks like the resolution caps out at 1152x870 but, as others have pointed out, this probably doesn't have anything to do with the black band around the edge of the screen. The black band (or, more accurately, the shrinking of the image) comes about with age and happens to the best of us. If you can't find controls on the outside of the monitor that will let you adjust it, there will be some on the inside, although I don't recommend looking for them unless you know what you're doing.
